UH PRSSA Students Gather from Dusk till Dawn

March 22, 2008

2008 Relay for Life Event Held at UH Manoa’s Cooke Field

 Written by: Kristen Kano

On March 8th and 9th, fourteen members of UH PRSSA gathered at Cooke Field to participate i the American Cancer’s Society’s annual Relay for Life event. We raised more than $2,000.00 in donations. All donations will go toward further cancer treatments and research so that one day a cure for the vicious disease can be found.

“Celebrate, Remeber, Fight Back” was the theme of the relay, and the dusk-until-dawn event symbolized the process of a person’s fight to battle and overcome cancer. Luminarias lit the track as our members walked and took part in the other relay activities during the overnight vigil. Luminarias were dedicated in support of those currently fighting cancer and to celebrate the lives of cancer survivors. Participants also lit in loving memory of those who lost their battles to the disease.

Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature activity. It brings together more than 3.5 million participants each year. Donations raised from the relay fund cutting-edge cancer research, education for early cancer detection and prevention, and patient services. Through relay, the organization is able to continue to help and empower those affected by cancer.

The American Cancer Society is the nation-wide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.
